Joan Elizabeth Shaw, aka "Salena Jones," is an American-born jazz and cabaret singer now living in London. Over the last forty years, Ms Jones has toured the world with jazz superstars like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington - she's recorded almost forty albums - and she's huge in Japan. Which may explain why her records are so hard to find in the US - they are mostly on Japanese labels and they tend to be expensive. Ms Jones has a beautiful resonate contralto voice with a little smoke at the low end of her register - precise diction and intonation - and a relaxed, swinging style. This live performace records was made during the festival "The Golden Orpheus" in June 1973. Include:
